Before Betting on Cubs vs Giants July 29

The Chicago Cubs had their six game win streak snapped in Thursday night’s 4-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants. The Cubs didn’t get their first hit until the 7th inning, but a Patrick Wisdom HR trimmed the gap even though Chicago only had 3 hits total. Ian Happ, rumored to be traded any day now, had the two other hits for the Cubs.

The Giants were happy to be back home as they had their 7-game losing streak snapped with Thursday’s win. San Francisco was swept in series’ against the Dodgers and Diamondbacks, but have now won four straight at Oracle Park. SF is a fairly significant favorite in the offshore odds for game two.

Marcus Stroman (2-5, 4.69 ERA) will try to pitch the Cubs to even up the series on Friday night. He’s had a solid July after returning from injury, posting a 1.26 ERA in three starts while not picking up a decision.

The Cubs had a tough time getting to Alex Wood on Thursday night, but they should have better success against Alex Cobb (3-4, 4.26 ERA) in game two. The Giants are 2-5 in Cobb’s last 7 starts and he hasn’t picked up a win since May 17th.

San Francisco and Chicago were heading in different directions prior to Thursday’s series opener, but have the Giants flipped the switch with their win? The Cubs have dropped four of their last five in San Francisco, but can have some success against Cobb and have value as underdogs.
