The penultimate round of matches in Group A of EURO qualification take place this week. There is an interesting battle for top spot in the standings, with the current holders of that position in action away from home on Thursday, as Spain travel to Cyprus.

Before Betting On Cyprus vs Spain

It hasn’t been the most straightforward of qualification campaigns for Spain, as they have been pushed to their limits in Group A. However, they finally moved to the top of the standings in the previous international break, as they recorded a fine victory over Scotland. The success means that they sit top of the standings on goal difference with just two rounds of matches remaining.

Spain are already among the leading contenders for EURO glory next summer, and they could effectively wrap up top spot with victory on the road against Cyprus this week. The Spanish have won five of their six matches in Group A, with their only defeat coming against Scotland earlier in the year. However, they are the highest scorers in Group A, and also boast the joint-best defensive record.

Cyprus will be the massive outsiders for this clash in Group A, as they have failed to win in seven matches in the group. Over that period, they have scored just two goals, and have allowed a group-high of 25 goals. Cyprus also come into this final Group A match after losing each of their last five internationals.

Their most recent defeat was a very disappointing effort on the road against Georgia, as they were easily beaten by a four-goal margin. The manner of that defeat doesn’t bode well for their chances of upsetting the odds against Spain this week in Group A.
