Meda defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the semis, 7-6 (3), 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. It was a convincing performance of the former champ here at the Flushing Meadows. Not only did he surprise everyone by beating the Spaniard, but the way the Russian, let’s say, rolled over his rival.
Before Alcaraz, Medvedev was better than Balazs, O’Connell, Baez, De Minaur, and Rublev. The contest against the latter one was odd, with Medvedev trailing in all three sets but coming back and flipping the result each time. At the end of the same, he looked exhausted, but that just might be a moment of good act that deceived both us and Carlitos.
Novak Djokovic hung up on Ben Shelton in the semis, with Serbia furiously defeating the youngster and eventually replicating his signature celebration at the end of the event. This is yet another season with Novak in all four Grand Slam finals, and by the way, this will be his 10th in New York where he has only three titles.
Novak has been solid during the tournament, beating guys like Muller, Zapata Miralles, compatriot Laslo Djere, Borna Gojo, and Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. He only had problems with Djere, where he lost two opening sets before rallying back. Other than that, Novak was perfect.

Novak has that rage for losing the finals two years ago, and he will probably be very sharp and motivated before this event. On the other hand, Medvedev has a nice chance to make this season successful. Until he met with Alcaraz, Meda wasn’t that impressive, yet the semis changed all that. We have to give a slight edge to Novak, who looks very sharp, and without any physical problems, with him having a much easier path to the finals.
