There was a lot of news today around the NFL. No.1 is DeAndre Hopkins’ trade to Arizona Cardinals.
Cards and Texans Swap Players
Arguably the best wide receiver in the league, DeAndre Hopkins, was sent earlier this Monday to Arizona, in return for David johnson, Cardinals’ running back. This might be the move that changes the landscape of the entire league.
Hopkins will create a powerful trio in Arizona’s attack with legendary Larry Fitzgerald and the former No.1 pick Kyler Murray, and no doubt, the Cardinals moved up the ladder with this trade. Apart from getting Hopkins, the franchise from Arizona got a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft, while on the other side, shipped a second-rounder for this draft and the fourth-round choice for next year’s.
The Texans had to give up on their biggest weapon to balance with the salary cap and the versatility of the roster. He would earn almost $43 million over the upcoming three seasons. Meanwhile, Johnson, who was one of the best RBs in 2016, had $18 million in the next two campaigns, with the note that he earns $7.9 in 2021.
After bursting four years ago, Johnson’s stats haven’t been that great, and overall, he became a mediocre player, with a massive contract for the Cardinals. In the meantime, the franchise found a rising star on the same position Kenyan Drake, and placed a transition tag on him, clearly indicating the priorities.
On the other side, the promising duo, Watson-Hopkins was broke up. Texans fans have massive doubts about this move of the organization, as they don’t quite believe that trading Hopkins would make them a Super Bowl contender.
Prescott Staying in Dallas for One More Year
Although many believed that Dak Prescott might sign a new deal with the Cowboys, that didn’t happen. The fantastic QB didn’t respond positively to a $34 million per year offer sent by Jerry Jones and the executives, forcing the team to put an exclusive franchise tag on him. That will cost the Cowboys between $30 and $33 million.
Prescot posted career-high number during the previous season, with 4,902 yards, and 30 TD passes. Dallas was looking like a true contender at certain points of the season, but also managed to make massive oscillations too.
The Cowboys were in a difficult situation these days, as they believed that Prescot would accept the deal, which would allow them to tag Amari Cooper. The way things stand now, superstar wide receiver is going to test the market. According to several sources from within the team, Cooper stated that he wants to stay in Arlington.
Earlier today, the Minnesota Vikings and Kirk Cousins signed a two-year extension worth $66 million, and having in mind the current contract, it means that Captain Kirk stays in Minneapolis for three more years. One other QB who was leading the Vikes before, Case Keenum joined Browns. The All-Pro DT DeForest Buckner heads for San Francisco for a first-round pick (13th).
Also, when talking about Minnesota, it seems that Stefon Diggs might finish in some other city by the end of the day.
