The New England Patriots will travel to Detroit to take on the Lions on Sunday night in week three of the NFL season. This game features two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Matthew Stafford and Tom Brady. With both teams struggling on defense, this could be a high scoring affair on Sunday night.
The New England Patriots come into this game with a 1-1 record after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in week two. New England beat the Houston Texans in the season opener but lost on the road in week two. The Detroit Lions lost a close game to the San Francisco 49ers last weekend after getting blown out in the season opener by the New York Jets. The New England Patriots are -7 over the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football.
Patriots Looking For Running Game
The New England Patriots have a ton of depth at the running back position, but they don’t have a clear number one runner. Rex Burkhead leads the team with 24 attempts for 86 yards but is averaging just 3.6 yards per carry. The Patriots are still looking for their first rushing touchdown of the season in this game.
Despite the lack of a running game, the Patriots offense has still looked good thanks to Tom Brady. Brady, 41, is averaging 243.5 passing yards a game and has thrown for five touchdowns already this season. The Patriots passing attack will get an added bonus for this game as Josh Gordon is expected to suit up. The former Cleveland Browns wide receiver will give Brady a proven pass catcher that will open things up in the passing game.
Lions Throwing The Deep Ball
The Detroit Lions have thrown the ball over 100 times through two games this season, and they love to throw the ball deep. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has thrown for 633 yards this season, but he has also thrown four interceptions. Detroit has five players averaging more than 13.0 yards per completion, with Kenny Golladay leading the group averaging 15.6 yards per catch.
The Lions have been trailing for much of the season, and they haven’t been able to get their running game going because of it. Former Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount was expected to be the featured back in Detroit, but he has racked up just 35 yards on 12 carries through the first two games. Detroit needs to find a balanced offense against a stout Patriots defense in this game.
Lions Fall To 0-3
The New England Patriots will be focused for this game after losing last weekend to the Jaguars. The Patriots will take away Matthew Stafford and the Lions passing attack in this game, and should find offensive success of their own against Detroit.
Matt Patricia’s coaching tenure in Detroit is off to a rough start, and it won’t get any easier in this game. The Lions showed signs of improvement last week against the 49ers, but they don’t have the talent to compete with the Patriots. Look for this game to be over early as the Patriots cruise to a victory. Bet on the New England Patriots -7 over the Detroit Lions in this Sunday Night Football affair
