Last week’s negative reports on President Joe Biden’s mental fitness that emerged following his slips in keeping classified documents drew plenty of attention. The Democrats are rallying behind President Biden, while the Republicans are accusing the incumbent President that he isn’t fit to be the White House chief anymore.
Hur’s Statement About Biden’s “Poor Memory”
President Biden didn’t properly keep classified documents, which is why Robert Hur had to question him for more than five hours. In the end, there won’t be any charges against the President, but the entire situation surely damaged his shaky reputation ahead of these elections.
Hur called Biden a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” which on one side caused a negative backlash from the Democrats and a surge of attacks on the President from the Republican part of the public.
Some even say that this is the moment when Democrats need to think about the different strategies for the upcoming elections and maybe even change the candidate, which would be a sort of precedent.
Who Can Replace Biden as Democrats’ Presidential Candidate?
Right now, President Biden is still the No.1 favorite to be the candidate of the Democratic party in the upcoming US 2024 Elections. Far ahead of all the others, Biden’s odds sit at -250.
Candidate | Odds |
---|---|
Joe Biden | -250 |
Michelle Obama | +375 |
Gavin Newsom | +650 |
Gretchen Whitmer | +900 |
Elizabeth Warren | +4000 |
Michelle Obama comes second at +375. The former First Lady wasn’t in the mix until recently when her name emerged and began circulating through the media headlines.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is third on the list, with the current US Vice President, Kamala Harris following him. Newsom was at one point a strong candidate for the presidential nominee, but along the way, especially in the last two months, his position weakened.
Among other names, we need to mention Gretchen Whitmer, Elizabeth Warren, and Hillary Clinton, who already competed against Trump back in 2016.
