An exciting weekend of horse racing action is set for Saturday at Pimlico, with the Preakness Stakes headlining the card in Maryland. However, before the middle leg of the Triple Crown, there is some excellent turf action in store with the G3 Dinner Party Stakes.

Schedule & How To Watch

  • When: Saturday, May 18, 2024
  • Where: Pimlico Racecourse, Maryland
  • How To Watch: NBC

Before Betting On Dinner Party Stakes

The G3 Dinner Party Stakes will be one of the final races on the card at Pimlico this weekend before the Preakness Stakes. It will be competed over 1 1/8 miles on the turf, with horses aged three and older competing for their share of the $500,000 purse. Set Piece was a famous winner of the race in 2023, and a number of leading contenders will go to post on Saturday.

Running Bee holds solid claims for trainer Chad Brown after finishing in the first two on each of his two starts this year. He was very impressive on allowance company at Keeneland last month, but he is yet to replicate that level of form in stakes company.

Emmanuel is another that deserves plenty of respect for trainer Todd Pletcher on Saturday. He was fifth in the G1 Maker’s Mark Mile at the end of last month, and is proven at Grade Three level after scoring in the G3 Canadian Turf in March. Was third in this race last year, but looks good value to go better this time around.

Adhamo has always threatened to be a good horse for connections, but his long winless streak has been expensive to follow after defeats in the G2 Muniz Memorial and G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf already this year. Highland Chief is well worth another go after returning from a long layoff when fifth in the G2 Elkhorn last month.

A wide open renewal of the Dinner Party Stakes sees a number of contenders hold excellent claims this weekend. However, it could be an opportunity for Balnikhov to gain a first win this year. Frankie Dettori will take the ride on the runner, who was last seen battling to third in the G3 San Francisco Mile Stakes.
