Dominic Breazeale wants to come back to the top of the heavyweight boxing, and he aims to challenge Andy Ruiz Jr. in order to do so.
Breazeale Searching Another Title Chance
In his latest interview, the 34-year old stated that he believes that his fight with Andy Ruiz would be an excellent thing for boxing. According to his words, it is something fans would love to see, and both of them would have a good opportunity four bouncing back following their respective defeats suffered in the last contests.
Breazeale was knocked out in the first round of his clash with, then WBC champion, Deontay Wilder back in May 2019, while on the other side, Ruiz lost both his title and the rematch against Anthony Joshua this last December.
So, this would be pretty much a ticket for coming back to the elite echelon of heavyweight boxing. It is something that Al Hammond, the famous promoter and manager proposed to both guys.
Breazeale also said that he would be more than willing to hand the first stoppage loss to Ruiz, as the Mexican’s only defeat in a career (the one against AJ) came via decision.
“I would take great glory in giving Andy Ruiz his first professional stoppage,” he said.
The American’s confidence comes from the fact that he had 18 KOs in 20 wins so far. However, his two losses were also via KO. The one was the above-mentioned against Wilder, and the other was in 2016, once he challenged Anthony Joshua for the IBF heavyweight title.
The response from Ruiz is expected in short notice, because the Mexican needs to react fast and remain in that group of fighters who are in the combination for a title fight.
Breazeale’s Quest for the Next Rival
A few days before calling out Ruiz, Breazeale was once again mentioning Dillian Whyte. WBC federation ordered these two guys to meet last February, but that didn’t happen. They were to face in a battle for an interim belt, but in the meantime, Breazeale received an offer from Wilder, which he accepted, jumping over Whyte.
After losing to Joshua in December 2015, Whyte posted nine wins in a row, becoming one of the best heavyweights, and the current holder of the WBC interim title. During his winning streak, he defeated Dereck Chisora twice via split decision and a KO, Robert Helenius, after a unanimous decision and Joseph Parker the same way.
At the moment, he is preparing for the fight against the Russian veteran Alexander Povetkin. That match is set for July 4, at Manchester Arena, and that would be Whyte’s first title defense.
It is probably why Breazeale shifted his focus to Ruiz Jr., and why he suddenly called out the only guy who defeated Anthony Joshua so far.
Some suggest that it wouldn’t be odd to see the American meeting Robert Helenius who is also pushing for a big fight. The Finish boxer recently defeated Adam Kownacki, which increased his ambitions and also, drew a lot of interest from various sides.
