Eagles Are Rolling After a 2-2 Start
Philadelphia has won four straight after splitting their first four games. The Eagles blew their Week 2 game against Atlanta and were dominated by Tampa Bay in Week 4. The season could easily have spiraled out of control. It would have continued their collapse from 2023 and might have cost head coach Nick Sirianni his job.
Instead, they got back on track defeating Cleveland, the Giants, Cincinnati, and Jacksonville. They have relied on one of the NFL‘s best rushing attacks led by Saquon Barkley.
Barkley added to his potential MVP season with a move that has already become part of league lore:
Quarterback Jalen Hurts is having another Pro Bowl season with 10 TD passes and only 4 interceptions. He has rushed for 147 yards. Wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are healthy after missing time with injuries earlier in the season. Tight end Dallas Goedert is out with a hamstring injury. Cornerback Darius Slay is on the shelf with a groin injury.
The Clock Is Ticking for Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy
After Dallas’ 27-21 loss to Atlanta in Week 9, they fell to 3-5. Speculation suggested head coach Mike McCarthy might be replaced. He is safe for now.
However, it is undeniable that McCarthy’s job is in jeopardy.
Contrary to perception, owner/GM Jerry Jones has been patient with his coaches. Still, a loss at home to Philadelphia could be the last straw.
Dallas is next-to-last in the league for defensive points allowed. In fairness, they are missing a big chunk of their defense with Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland out. Trevon Diggs is questionable. The Cowboys’ rushing attack has been non-existent and before the Atlanta game, they left Ezekiel Elliot in Dallas for disciplinary reasons.
Quarterback Dak Prescott has a hamstring injury and is expected to go on injured reserve. Cooper Rush and Trey Lance are his backups with Rush likely to start in Prescott’s stead.
