Philadelphia Has Hit Its Stride

After splitting its first two games including a dreadful late loss to Atlanta and a blowout loss to Tampa Bay, Philadelphia has won six straight. At 8-2, they have taken over first place in the NFC East over Washington. They defeated the Commanders in Week 11 giving them a leg up for the division title.

Injuries hampered one of Philadelphia’s strengths with the downfield passing game. At various times, they have been without A.J. Brown, Dallas Goedert, and DeVonta Smith. The NFL MVP-caliber season by Saquon Barkley has more than made up for it. Smith has a hamstring injury and is out for the Rams game.

The Eagles need to keep winning if they want to have a chance at home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs should 9-1 Detroit slip up.

Los Angeles is vulnerable to the run game, so expect Bakley, Kenneth Gainwell, and quarterback Jalen Hurts to use their legs extensively, especially with Smith out.

Rams’ Playoff Hopes Are Still Alive

Los Angeles has won four of five after a 1-4 start. In Week 11, they escaped New England with a 28-22 win to keep pace in the NFC West. The Rams are one of three teams in the division with San Francisco and Seattle holding a 5-5 record, one game behind first-place Arizona.

Their remaining schedule is moderately difficult, but they are playing three games against divisional foes. A loss to Philadelphia will not doom their hopes. The Rams even being in this position is a testament to head coach Sean McVay. They have suffered injuries to star players Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua and tried to account for the retirement of star defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford had his best game of the season against New England completing 18 of 27 for four touchdowns, accruing a QB rate of 142.7. Philadelphia’s defense has been stingy in all phases. Given the circumstances, it makes sense for the Rams to come out firing with abandon.

Eagles vs Rams Prediction: LA and Philly Will Trade Fire

Philadelphia and Los Angeles have enough firepower to trade scores throughout the game. Expect big games from the key offensive stars on both teams — Barkley and Hurts for Philly; Stafford, Kupp, and Nacua for LA — and for the teams to score more than 49.
