According to various sources, Edinson Cavani will join Atletico Madrid at the end of this season. The Uruguayan striker is going to leave PSG after the end of his contract, which is on the 30th of June 2020.

An Agreement With Atletico

The Italian journalists, Gianluca Di Marzio, reported about this earlier today, causing chaos on the social networks.

Allegedly, the two sides reached an “agreement,” which will keep the experienced striker three years at Wanda Metropolitan stadium. Also, there are some rumors that PSG might even allow the 32-year old to leave already this winter, with a symbolic compensation.

The reason for that is his current injury, which is going to keep Cavani away from the pitch for at least two more weeks.

Also, his role in the team this season is significantly less important than over the previous few years, and Tomas Tuchel already indicated that he isn’t going to use Cavani as before. That is why Parisians brought Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan, the striker with a similar style of play as the Uruguayan superstar.

Back then, there was on the option of swapping the players, but Inter eventually chose to land Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United.

On the other side, Atletico needs one more typical striker besides Alvaro Morata. Diego Costa’s status in the club is not clear, and so far, it appears that Diego Simeone isn’t very satisfied with his performances. So, adding Cavani would be an excellent move and insurance if anything goes wrong in the future.
