Tottenham and Chelsea have their first clash of the season, but not in the Premiership, but instead in the English Football League Cup. Nevertheless, these two fierce rivals will try to post a win, especially after massive disappointments suffered this weekend.

Where: Tottenham Stadium, London

When: 2:45 pm ET, Tuesday, 29 August

Tottenham vs. Chelsea Preview

The Spurs ended their match against Newcastle tragically, allowing a late goal, and to make it even worse, it was from a penalty. Meanwhile, Chelsea was on the brink of the disaster against WBA, but pulled away with one point following a second-half comeback. We can say without any hesitation that both Mourinho and Lampard expected a better start of the campaign. A win in this matchup would improve morale, which is why Tuesday’s game is so important.

Tottenham’s Misses Cause a Late Stunner

Newcastle went home from London with a point undeservedly. But the only ones who are to blame for that are Tottenham’s players who didn’t use multiple chances to close this match earlier. Son for example, had two woodwork hits, Dier had a clear chance after a corner, etc.

It’s no wonder why Mourinho seemed furious at the end. Tottenham‘s players are slowly losing patience, and what is more problematic, the players look pale on the pitch without any motive to get better.

Gareth Bale’s arrival might change something, but not in this match, because he won’t play. Sissoko and Tanganga are both injured, the same as Son.

Chelsea Not Meeting Expectations

The Blues got back from 3-0 to 3-3 against WBA, avoiding a very unpleasant episode. The opinions are divided when it comes to discussing whether they deserved that one point or not. On the other side, what is definitely sure is that they have massive problems with defense, and somehow, Lampard needs to improve that.

Timo Werner looked helpless in some moments, and the German still didn’t adjust well to the new environment and different style of play.

Injuries have a lot to do with Chelsea‘s poor start. Ziyech and Pulisic are out, and these two guys are projected to be the pivotal players in Blues’ philosophy of play. Chilwell was also out, the same as Thiago Silva.

Two of the first-mentioned are questionable for tomorrow, but Lampard probably won’t risk anything by putting them in the starting lineup.

Head to Head Matches

Chelsea has 72 victories, and Tottenham 54, with 40 draws. The Blues were better than the Spurs on both occasions last season, once on the road, 0-2, and at Stamford, 2-1.

Prediction

This will be a tough match for both sides, and even though it is in less famous of two English cups, neither side would want to lose, because of the rivalry with the counterpart. Moderate efficiency here looks like the perfect solution, with 2 or 3 goals being priced at +100.

Another suggestion would be the second halftime to be the highest-scoring one, as we believe that most of the action will take place in the latter 45 minutes.
