The second round of fixtures in Group B at the World Cup will feature a heavyweight showdown between the United States and England. The pressure will likely be on the USMNT on Friday, as they search for a first win in the competition. Meanwhile, England could effectively book their spot in the next round with a second straight win.

This will be a third World Cup meeting between the United States and England. Surprisingly, the Three Lions have never recorded a victory in the competition against the U.S., with the latest meeting ending in a 1-1 draw in 2010. However, England has still won eight of the eleven meetings between the nations, and the Three Lions are a much better side than they were 12 years ago.

England got off to a dream start in Group B, as they recorded one of their biggest ever World Cup victories against Iran. The Three Lions were fine 6-2 winners in that fixture, with a young spine shining throughout, as England dictated the game from start to finish. Bukayo Saka was the star of the show, as he scored twice, while Jude Bellingham also opened the scoring with his first World Cup goal. There was also first goals in the competition for Marcus Rashford, Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling.

The USA kicked off their Group B campaign in the late game on Monday, as they clashed with Wales. However, it was the United States that started the game in better form, and they deservedly went ahead ten minutes before the break through Timothy Weah.

However, the U.S. couldn’t maintain the pace that they had played with in the first half, and they were pegged back with just ten minutes of the 90 remaining. Gareth Bale scored the equalising goal, which means that there will be pressure on the States to land a first win at the World Cup this year on Friday.

England started the World Cup in dominant fashion on Monday, and they looked sharp across the pitch. The United States looked tired in their second half against Wales, and a repeat performance means that it could be a straightforward evening for the Three Lions.
