The English Premier League is back after the international break with Liverpool the only team in the country through the first four rounds of action.
English Premier League is Back
The English Premier League is back and league leaders Liverpool get things started with the fist game tomorrow morning as they host Newcastle. The European champions have not lost a home game since April of 2017. The chances of a Newcastle victory are very slim considering they come into this game off back to back losses. Their best hope in this one is to park the bus in front of goal and hope to earn a draw.
Defending champions Manchester City will play away to Norwich who could be in for a long afternoon. After four matches played, Norwich have allowed the most goal in the league with ten. At he same time Manchester City have scored the most goals in the league as they usually do. There’s not reason to think they won’t get a result in this one away from home.
The Chasing Pack Need Wins
Manchester United will host Leicester City at Old Trafford. This is a must win game for ManU even though it is still early in the season. They sit in eighth place on five points and a win could see them tie Leicester on points. Now that the English Premier League is back, United just like the rest of the chasing pack will know they can’t afford to be dropping anymore points over the coming weeks. After their match with Leicester City, two of their next four matches will be against Arsenal and Liverpool.
Speaking of Arsenal, they travel across town to play Watford who recently fired their manager. They sit last in the league and will be desperate to pick up points at home. Meanwhile Arsenal have won their last two games and will hope to build on that momentum.
Two London Clubs Fighting for Consistency
In the case of Chelsea, this season was never going to be easy. After losing their best player, they were unable to look for a replacement due to their transfer ban. At the same time, they decided to bring in a rookie manager and things have been bumpy at the start. There’s no way Frank Lampard’s job is in jeopardy but he will have to start winning games. For now, Chelsea fans have to be happy with the way he has allowed their young local players to flourish. Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have both impressed this season. Young American Christian Pulisic has also looked really good. There is a lot of reason to be optimistic about the future of Chelsea football despite the lack of results.
As for Tottenham Spurs, it’s the same old story of Mauricio Pochettino’s men. They can’t seem to find consistency despite their obvious talent. This summer they spent the money to bring in reinforcements but so far have only claimed one win in the first four matches of the season. Even though it’s still early September, they way Liverpool and Manchester City look Spurs could be out of the title race before October if they don’t get it together. The English Premier is back, let the game begin.
