Reds Suffer Another Home Defeat
Liverpool’s unbeaten record at Anfield, which last nearly four years was brought to an end just a couple of weeks ago as Burnley picked up an unlikely win on Merseyside. However, Jurgen Klopp’s sides hopes of starting a new unbeaten record at their home stadium were dealt a blow this past week, as they were stunned by relegation-threatened Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls wanted it more in that recent meeting, and took all three points after scoring the only goal of the game in the second half. Klopp bemoaned after the game that his side were fatigued, but the German shouldn’t expect much sympathy from many of his title rivals.
The Reds have played less games than both Manchester City and Manchester United so far this month. However, Liverpool will need to end their recent wobble at home if they have any hope of regaining their title this season, as they already sit seven points adrift of Manchester City. Their title defence could effectively be over with a defeat against City this weekend.
City Looking For 14th Straight Win
Manchester City are certainly the team to catch in the Premier League this season. Any side that finishes above the Citizens will likely be claiming the league title this season. Pep Guardiola’s side have been in phenomenal form recently, and they come to Anfield having won their last 13 in all competitions. That record is the longest winning run by a Premier League side since Arsenal between March and August in 2002. City claimed that 13th win at Turf Moor on Wednesday evening, as they sealed a comfortable 2-0 success.
Both goals for City were scored in the first half. Gabriel Jesus scored for the second game running to open the scoring after three minutes, before Raheem Sterling continued his decent scoring run by scoring the second just before the half-time break. City are currently three points clear of Manchester United at the top of the league, and could open up a gap over their local rivals with a win at Anfield.
Recent Meetings Between Sides
Liverpool have only beaten Manchester City once in the Premier League since 2018. That victory came in a 3-1 success at Anfield the last time that these two sides met on Merseyside. City won the return game last season 4-0. The previous meeting between City and Liverpool this season ended in a 1-1 draw.
Liverpool vs Manchester City Picks
Liverpool’s form doesn’t bold well for their chances in this game. City have been excellent over recent months, and a win at Anfield will certainly lay down a marker for the remainder of the season. We can’t see anything other than an away win in this game.
