Before Betting On Epsom Oaks
The Epsom Oaks is one of the most prestigious races of the season in the United Kingdom, and it is the second-oldest of the Classics to be staged. This race will cover a total distance of a mile and four, with the race forming the second leg of the Fillies’ Triple Crown following the 1,000 Guineas. Robert Robson is the leading trainer in the race, but Aidan O’Brien has achieved the most success in recent history after winning three of the last four editions.
The Irish maestro will be well represented in the Oaks this week, with market-leader Ylang Ylang likely to be among the leading chances. She enjoyed an excellent juvenile season, before returning to action to take fifth in the G1 1,000 Guineas. However, O’Brien’s second-string has a solid recent record in the race, meaning Rubies Are Red could be one to keep on side.
The three-year-old has something to find on ratings, but she stepped up in trip in fine style to take second behind You Got To Me in the Oaks Trial Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield. Ezeliya is also hard to overlook for the Demot Weld team after impressive on her return to action to beat Purple Lily in the G3 Salsabil Stakes at Navan.
Forest Fairy is one of three interesting runners for Ralph Beckett this week. She maintained her perfect record on track after beating Port Fairy by a head in the notable Cheshire Oaks trial over a mile and three.
Epsom Oaks Offshore Odds & Pick
A wide-open renewal of the Oaks is set for this Friday. However, we are keen on the chances of Secret Satire for the Andrew Balding yard. The three-year-old was a commanding winner of the G3 Musidora on her previous outing, with that trial having produced two of the last three winners of the Oaks.
