EURO 2020 has one very interesting matchup coming up, with two neighborhood countries clashing on Monday night, France and Switzerland. The two sides have a long history of meeting at international tournaments. Yet this match will have a totally different hype around it because it comes in the knockout stage. We’ve seen so many times in the past the underdogs defeating the title contenders, which makes these types of competitions interesting for watching.

France Needs Improvement Upfront

Even though the French team finished first in Group F, which was the toughest one at this championship, we need to say that they didn’t amaze us with their performances. A win over Germany in the first round was a product of major luck; after that, the Gauls posted two draws against Hungary and France, in which the World champs didn’t shine as they should be.

We saw that Deschamps has problems in the attack, especially when his team needs to pressure and lead the game. France knows how to defend and strike from counter-attacks, but they do not know how to dictate the tempo of the match.

The Gauls are without a defeat for 10 matches, and before the last two, they haven’t allowed a single goal in five consecutive.

Swiss Want to Surprise

This team isn’t getting enough love. We know that Switzerland isn’t a powerhouse in football, and that their game might be a bit raw, but overall, these guys are playing solid football.

One win, draw, and loss is their record from the group stage, scoring four and allowing five goals. Vladimir Petkovic’s team had a nice chance to finish off the Welsh team in the opener but failed to use that, eventually taking just one point from that event.

The defeat against Italy is the only one for this unit in the previous 10 meetings. Apart from that, they have seven wins, and two draws as well.

France vs Switzerland Head to Head Games

In the last 18 years, France and Switzerland met seven times at big tournaments. In all those matches, the French side didn’t lose – three wins and four draws. They also faced one another four times at major competitions – EURO 2004, 3-1 for France, World Cup 2006, 0-0, World Cup 2014, 5-2 for France, and EURO 2016, 0-0. All the games were in the group stage.

France vs Switzerland Prediction and Pick

The Swiss side has no other option but to wait for their chance to stun the favorites on a fast break. We expect to see Vladimir Petkovic sending a defensive-minded team on the pitch, with five players in defense, maybe four but two defensive midfielders in that case. All in all, this should be one dull and slow match without too many goals. Therefore, the first pick for it is under 2.5 goals. The profit is not that high -166, but in our opinion, it is safe.

Pick: Under 2.5 goals
