Germany kick off their home EUROs on June 14 when they feel the weight of expectation on their shoulders for the first time at the Allianz Arena. Julian Nagelsmann will be hoping that his side can get off to a winning start in Munich against Scotland.

Before Betting On Germany vs Scotland

It has been a strange period in the history of the German national team, with the side crashing out in each of the last two World Cups in the group stage. However, a home tournament brings with it expectations, and a response will be expected from the national side this summer. Germany are widely expected to have few issues in ensuring their progression through to the knockout stage in Group A, with many even picking the team to go all the way.

However, there are still clear teething problems within the Nagelsmann regime, and they have been evident over the last 12 months despite wins against the Netherlands and France. Their most recent warm-up match could indicate their biggest issue this summer, as they failed to break down a resilient Ukraine team when playing out a 0-0 draw in Nuremberg.

Steve Clarke leads Scotland into a second successive EUROs this summer, but they will be looking to build on a very disappointing showing three years ago when exiting in the group stage. However, this is a feel-good moment for the Scots, as they enjoyed an excellent qualifying campaign, which saw them finish above Norway and within touching distance of Spain.

Still, questions remain about whether they have the quality to truly test the best national teams in world soccer after being brushed aside by England and France last year. However, even a draw from this opening match would give them the confidence of making it out of Group A this summer.

Germany have recorded victories in each of their last three international meetings with Scotland, which includes a 3-2 win in September 2015. We expect that trend to continue on the opening night of the EUROs, with the Germans making home advantage count by picking up a scruffy win in Munich.
