France will be the clear favorites to progress from Group D at EURO 2024 this summer. The former world champions once again showed their quality in major tournaments in 2022 as they reached the final of the World Cup before losing to Argentina. However, deep runs in the EUROs have evaded them throughout recent history, reaching just once final since winning the competition in 2000.
The Netherlands will likely be pushing France for top spot in the group standings. They have a fine historic record in the tournament after reaching the semi-finals on five occasions since 1976. However, they exited the tournament at the round of 16 stage in the previous edition. The Dutch will also have something to find with France after suffering back to back defeats against their Group D rivals in qualifying.
Austria are the only other nation that are assured of their spot in Group D at this stage, and they will be competing in the tournament for the fourth time in five editions. They achieved their best ever showing in the competition in 2020 after reaching the round of 16. However, it appears to be a tall order for them to match that feat.
The final place in Group D will be determined following the playoffs in late March. Wales and Finland will collide in one semi-final, and they will come up against either Poland or Estonia. The winner will then be the likely outsider in the betting to top Group D this summer.
