The huge action in the quarterfinal stage at the EUROs continues on Friday in Hamburg, as Portugal and France meet in a rematch of the 2016 final. Both nations will have their sights set on a final appearance in Berlin, but for one, the journey will end in the last eight.

Before Betting On Portugal vs France

A mouth-watering quarterfinal will be contested in Hamburg on Friday, as two of the leading contenders for European glory this year will collide. France will likely start the match as the favorites, but the former world champions have continued to stutter for form throughout the competition to this point. That is echoed by the fact that they are still yet to register a goal from open play at the EUROs this summer.

They needed their fair share of luck once again in the previous round, as an own goal in the final five minutes of normal time was eventually enough to overcome Belgium. However, like many other big nations, France lacked quality in the final third of the field, and they struggled to create much in the way of clear scoring opportunities.

The same could also have been said about Portugal, who needed a penalty shootout to overcome Slovenia in their round of 16 tie in Frankfurt. It was the Cristiano Ronaldo show for much of the evening, with the former Real Madrid and Man United star attempting attempts from all over the pitch in an attempt to force his nation through.

However, it was the legendary forward who almost cost his nation a place in the final eight after missing a spot kick in the extra time period. Fortunately, Portugal was able to rediscover their composure to win 3-0 from the penalty spot.

Portugal vs France Head to Head

Portugal famously won the 2016 EURO final in Paris against France, but that was a rare high point in this fixture for the Portuguese. That is their only win over their rivals since 1975, leaving them with a lot to find this week.

Portugal’s record against France leaves a lot to be desired, but they have at least shown more attacking flair throughout the tournament to this point. For that reason, we will be siding with Ronaldo to lead his side into the final four of the EUROs on Friday.
