England will be hoping to end their long wait for a major tournament success this summer, and the Three Lions will kick off their EURO 2024 campaign in Gelsenkirchen against Serbia on Sunday. It could be a tricky opening night assignment for Gareth Southgate’s team at the Veltins Arena.

Before Betting On Serbia vs England

All eyes will be on the pre-tournament favorites for EURO 2024 success on Sunday, as England take to the field for the first time in Germany. Gareth Southgate has come close to taking the nation to the promised land during his reign, finishing fourth at the 2018 World Cup and runners-up at EURO 2020. However, there are no more chances for the coach, as a tournament success would be expected this summer.

The Three Lions were at their dominant best during qualifying after going eight without defeat, and scoring an impressive 22 goals. Defensively, they were solid during qualifying after allowing just four goals. However, issues in the backline are a concern ahead of this opening match, with Harry Maguire missing the tournament, and questions surrounding the fitness of Luke Shaw and John Stones.

Serbia have competed at three of the last four World Cups, but this will be their return to the EUROs for the first time since reaching the quarterfinals in 2000. The national side enjoyed a reliable progression through to this stage during qualifying after winning half of their eight matches, and suffering just two defeats.

Serbia boasts excellent quality in the final third of the field, with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Luka Jovic likely to be tasked with scoring the goals. However, their reliable defensive record makes them an interesting opening night challenge for England, as the Three Lions have struggled to break down teams that have played with a low block throughout 2024.

This isn’t the most straightforward opening match for England at the EUROs this summer, with the Three Lions stuttering for form in 2024. However, we expect England to get a victory to open their Group C campaign, but it may only come by a one-goal margin.
