Everton’s Excellent Start Ended
It would appear as though the excellent start to the season that has been enjoyed by Everton has now come to and end, as the Toffees haven’t won in their last three Premier League games. They have also lost their last two in the league, with both of these defeats coming on the road against Southampton and Newcastle United. Their defeat against Newcastle was the last match Everton played, and the Toffees were very underwhelming in that fixture.
They fell behind 2-0 to Newcastle, before managing to get themselves back into the game in the closing moments. However, very few could complain that Newcastle didn’t deserve the three points. These consecutive losses have come after a Merseyside derby draw, and the run of form means that Everton are no longer the early leaders in the league table. Their recent form has seen them drop down to fourth in the standings, and defeat this weekend could see them drop further down the league standings.
United Yet To Find Groove Domestically
As for Manchester United, there has been a huge difference in the form that they have shown in the Premier League and the form that they have shown in the Champions League. In Europe, the Red Devils have been electric, as they have claimed victories over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig already. That win against Leipzig was the finest display of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era.
However, the high of that win was quickly sucked out of the club with an inept performance against Arsenal in their last Premier League fixture. It was one of the most disappointing United performances in the last couple of years, with a Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang goal being the difference. United never looking like troubling the Arsenal defence, and Solskjaer could ring the changes in this fixture against Everton, with Donny van der Beek finally given a chance from the start in the Premier League in place of the underwhelming Paul Pogba.
Everton vs Manchester United Recent Meetings
United haven’t beat Everton in the previous three meetings, while they haven’t won at Goodison since January 2018. Both matches last season ended in 1-1 draws, while Everton’s last home win against United came in the form of a 4-0 success back in April 2019.
Everton vs Manchester United Picks
United have been better away from home in the league so far this season, as they have already beaten Newcastle and Brighton on their travels. Meanwhile, there will be huge pressure on Solskjaer in this fixture, and we fancy that United will do just enough to get the three points at Goodison Park.
