Croatia clinched a spot in the Greece-region FIBA Qualifying Finals following their win over the Dominican Republic. Their 80-77 victory was a close game to the very end as both teams clashed to avoid elimination. Croatia ultimately pulled away with the win thanks to another dominant performance by Ivan Zubac, who posted 25 points and 9 rebounds. Croatia will continue relying on Zubac in this matchup against Greece.
As the hosting favorites, Greece made the Qualifying Finals as expected. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who had an injury scare in Greece’s win over the Dominican Republic, returned to the court in triumphant fashion. He led the team to a 96-68 win over Slovenia and fellow superstar Luka Dončić. In order to make it to the 12-team Group Stage, Greece needs Giannis and company to remain consistent offensively. Croatia will not be an easy out.

This is the first of four qualifying finals that will determine which four teams join the 12-team group stage. Greece was the top-seeded team in this region, and enters this game as the favorite. Giannis offers a uniquely dynamic combination of size and scoring ability, that makes it difficult for teams without NBA talent to keep up with them. That being said, Zubac has been thriving on both ends for Croatia. If he can limit Giannis’ movement, this game may be closer than expected. Greece should still have the edge in this one.
