The 2024 Summer Olympics are here! After the FIBA qualifying matches concluded, the 12 teams participating were officially determined. This Group Stage matchup features a notable clash between France and Brazil.
Before Betting on France vs Brazil
France is considered by many to be a sleeper candidate to take home the gold in the FIBA Olympic tournament. They failed to make it out of the group stage in last summer’s FIBA World Cup, but have since added global phenom Victor Wembanyama to the national team’s rapidly improving roster. The interior defense of Wembanyama and fellow Frenchman Rudy Gobert, the top-2 defensive of the year candidates in the NBA, is sure to be sensational. Under the FIBA ruleset, they may hold some opponents to under 50 points.
Brazil was one of the best surprises of the qualifying stage, upsetting Latvia to win the Latvia-region qualification final. Doing so earned them a spot in the main tournament, where they open as a slim underdog against #9 France. Brazil only ranks three spots behind them in the global rankings, but will be facing a France roster that is more akin to the #2 team in the world than their previous squad’s ranking of #9. Bruno Caboclo and Léonardo Meindl led Brazil with 23 points apiece in the win over Latvia and will be key once again.

This game is set to be one of the most exciting matchups of the group stage’s first round. All eyes will be on Victor Wembanyama and France, but Brazil is also one of the most exciting teams. Their 25-point triumph against world #6 Latvia was very notable. Not only did they win, but they dominated the competition. Brazil is capable of testing France’s stacked roster. Their offense, which scored 94 points in the win over Latvia, will be an excellent first matchup for France’s defense. The frontcourt of Wemby and Gobert should have the edge.
