The 2024 Summer Olympics are here! After the FIBA qualifying matches concluded, the 12 teams participating were officially determined. This Group Stage matchup features an exciting clash between Germany and Japan.

Germany enters the FIBA Olympic tournament as the #3 team in the world. They have high aspirations to make a deep run in this tournament after winning the FIBA World Cup last summer. Yuta Watanabe has grown into a basketball star in Japan and will be crucial to their chances of making it past the Group Stage of this tournament. Watanabe played well in the FIBA World Cup last season but needs more support from the rest of the team to make a deeper run in the Olympics. Rui Hachimura’s presence will be key.

The second game of the group stage features another excellent matchup. Both of these teams have NBA players headlining rosters that are capable of surprising many people. Japan is definitely seen as more of the underdog after Germany won the FIBA World Cup last year, but both have found recent success that has greatly improved their outlook. It will be an uphill battle for Japan to come away with the win here, but it’s not impossible. Ultimately, Germany should have enough of an edge in experience to win this one.
