The standout match in Group F at the Women’s World Cup takes place on Saturday morning, as the two clear favorites for progression lock horns at Lang Park in Brisbane. Brazil could put down a real marker for success this year, while France need to get on track after a below-par effort in their opening match.

Before Betting On France vs Brazil

The World Cup action continues in Australia on Saturday, as two of the leading contenders for glory lock horns in Group F. It was a contrasting start to the tournament for Brazil and France, with the latter being held to a shock draw in Sydney by Jamaica. Despite boasting quality across the field, France is yet to better their fourth-place showing in 2011 at the World Cup, and they have exited the competition at the quarterfinal stage in each of the last two seasons.

France were well below their best in their World Cup opener, as they couldn’t find a way past Jamaica, despite boasting 73% of the possession. The French registered 14 shots, but very rarely threatened the Jamaican goal. It was just the second time that they had failed to open their World Cup campaign with a victory, and it means that the pressure is really on ahead of this showdown with Brazil.

There was certainly a Samba feel to Brazil’s opening match at the World Cup, as the reigning Copa America champions were sensational in the final third against Panama on Monday. Ary Borges was dominant in the final third, as she netted a hat-trick, while her assist for an early goal of the tournament contender by Beatriz Zaneratto was also stunning.

Brazil dominated the possession, and registered 32 shots in the match, meaning that they could have easily won by a wider margin than 4-0. The victory means that Brazil have now won their opening match in each of the nine previous editions of the World Cup, and Borges’ hat-trick was the fifth time that a player making her debut at the tournament had netted a treble.

This is a much bigger test for Brazil than their opening match. But, the manner of their performance certainly gives them an excellent chance against a French side that struggled against Jamaica. Therefore, the preference is for Brazil to land a second straight win.
