One of the best lightweights in the world, George Kambosos is back in the ring trying to reclaim his throne lost recently. His upcoming rival will be the English boxer Maxi Hughes.

Before Betting On George Kambosos vs. Maxi Hughes

The Firelake Arena in Shawnee will host one particularly interesting boxing matchup between the former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion, Kambosos, and the IBO champion, Hughes.

This battle will have a big impact on the lightweight division because it stands as a title eliminator, and whoever wins will be the next challenger to the current undisputed lightweight champion, Devin Haney. So much is at stake here, and the pressure is high for both participants.

Kambosos needs to retain his status to regain his belts, while Hughes knows this might be his last chance to do something big.

The 30-year-old briefly held the four of five most important lightweight belts, after defeating Teofimo Lopez back in 2021 via split decision. At the time, it was his third in a row split-decision victory, following the one against Mickey Bey and Lee Selby. The Aussie had 20 wins in a row until he lost to Haney twice in a row in 2022, both times via unanimous decision. Ten of his victories were via decision, and ten via knockouts.

On the other side is the English fella, who had a late blossom after a few losses in title matches. Hughes stepped up his game, winning seven fights in a row and, while doing so, becoming the IBO lightweight champion. His victory over Jovanni Straffon earned Hughes this title, and he successfully defended it two more times, against Ryan Walsh and Kid Galahad.

Hughes does have a higher punching volume, but his shots are weaker than Kambosos’. Also, the Englishman doesn’t have the needed experience in bouts like this, while Kambosos faced Lopez, Haney, and several other fighters at a higher level than Huges. That’s why we strongly believe in his victory.
