The college basketball season is heating up as March quickly approaches! A key SEC bout takes place here. Our Georgia vs Tennessee prediction sees the Volunteers fighting to bounce back.

Georgia Aiming to Stay Hot

Georgia has been one of many surprises in a stacked SEC so far this season. They hold a 14-2 record after an excellent week that included two wins against teams ranked in the top-20 at the time. Leading-scorer Asa Newell has reached double-digit point totals in 15 of 16 games this season as a Freshman.

The Bulldogs owe their recent wins to their 3rd-year coach Mike White’s defensive scheme. In their two recent ranked wins, Georgia allowed less than 70 points, earning a pair of double-digit victories. They face a tough task on the road here, but have a good chance against an offensively challenged Tennessee.

Tennessee Seeks Offensive Improvement

The Volunteers were exposed on offense in their brutal loss to Florida. Offensive troubles have been a consistent issue for a Tennessee team that is regularly strong at defense, but struggles to score. In their last four games against mostly inferior teams, the Volunteers scored just 65 points per game.

Much of the offensive efficiency will fall on Senior Chaz Lanier, who was inefficient in Tennessee’s last two games. After averaging over 25 ppg in the three games prior, Lanier posted just 10 ppg on 3-11 and 3-16 shooting last week. He’ll need to get back on track if the Volunteers wish to climb back up the rankings.

Georgia Bulldogs vs Tennessee Volunteers Prediction

I went back and forth on this pick for a while. On paper, Tennessee is the better team and will be very tough to beat on their home court. That being said, their offensive troubles just cannot be overlooked. Georgia’s efficiency on defense should test the Volunteers all game. I see them earning the upset.
