The struggles continue for the San Francisco Giants, who have dropped the first two in their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks and six straight overall. SF is still favored on the offshore odds even though they are on a getaway day and could be caught looking ahead to a four game weekend series at the second place Padres.
Arizona aims for the sweep as they try to inch back closer to .500 (37-44). That record still has the Diamondbacks facing a 14.5 game deficit n the NL West, but with the last place Rockies coming to town for four games over the weekend this looks like a nice spot for Arizona to start building some momentum.
The Diamondbacks have an 8-2 and a 6-3 win the last two nights, getting victories as +172 and +144 underdogs in the offshore odds. After a couple of strong pitching performances to open the series Merrill Kelly (7-5, 3.46 ERA) tries to complete the trifecta. Kelly has allowed an earned run or less in three of his last five starts.
Alex Cobb (3-3, 4.94 ERA) will try to be the stopper for San Francisco as they try to end this six game slide. Cobb has surrendered two ER or less in four straight starts, but the Giants are just 1-3 over that span. The right-hander has a 6.41 ERA in four road outings in 2022.
