The Giants Look Toward the Offseason
The Giants will still have a very high pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but it will not be the first overall pick. This is not catastrophic as there is no consensus, no-brainer first pick in the coming draft. Still, they limited their options with their win over the Colts. If it’s any consolation, they knocked Indy out of playoff contention.
New York’s season has been a disaster.
That could be construed as a citywide assessment considering that the Jets have been a bigger mess than the Giants — no small feat.
In advance of Wild Card weekend, the Eagles are sitting their best players. That gives the Giants a chance and the odds reflect it.
At least they won’t have a front-row seat watching their former number two overall pick and 2024 castoff Saquon Barkley break Eric Dickerson’s rushing record against them.
Black Monday looms, but all signs point to general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll being given another year. If Barkley broke the record against them, maybe John Mara might react differently given how the brain trust pushed the possible MVP out the door and did so in front of the Hard Knocks cameras.

Who’s Not Playing for the Eagles?
Other players will sit along with Barkley. That includes starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, backup quarterback Kenny Pickett, and wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Tight end Dallas Goedert might get a few series as he returns from a knee injury, but he won’t play much either.
This is wise.
There was a silly debate — mostly from the media and fans — over whether Barkley should get the chance to break Dickerson’s record. The Eagles are locked in at the number 2 seed and will host a home Wild Card game, probably against Green Bay.
This game means nothing to Philadelphia unless you count the pleasure of battering the Giants. Now, the worst thing they could do to their East Coast neighbor is to lose so the Giants have a lower draft pick.

Much like the preseason, the focus is on staying healthy, working on a few plays, and looking at backups to see who will get a role when the games count. That’s where the Eagles are. The Giants should keep the game close and maybe even win.
