USA After Vengeance
A defeat from two years ago is still a painful memory for the American team. To remind, the Mexicans defeated the USA at the Soldier Field in Chicago, crushing their dreams of winning the seventh Gold Cup title. The talented team led by Gregg Berhalter experienced back then one of its first big failures, and many players still haven’t forgotten about that.
The Yanks have just one defeat and draw each in the past 15 matches, recording 13 victories during that span. Now even though some of those contests were against the teams from the CONCACAF zone, the current form can’t be diminished, especially if you see that the USA beat Canada, Jamaica, Mexico, Northern Ireland, and several other teams.
Five of the past six saw just one side scoring, and four in the past five were with under 2.5 goals, all of those games coming at this Gold Cup.
Mexican’s Crazy Semifinals
The match against Canada was arguably the best one this year, probably in the whole of America. Two penalties, comebacks, the tension in the stands, tension on the field, and a late dagger, provided by Hector Herrera in the 99th minute. All that was seen on Thursday night.
Luckily for them, the Sombreros have passed to the next stage, although Canada pushed them to the brink. Once again, the Mexicans showed incredible composure and mental stability even in the moments when things weren’t heading in their direction.
Up until the game with Canada and Buchanon’s goal, the Mexicans have kept seven consecutive cleans sheets, and throughout that span, they posted five wins and two draws.
Head to Head Matches
The most recent match, mentioned in the opening paragraph, was on June 6, when the USA beat Mexico in the CONCACAF Nations League finals, 3-2, following extra times and Christian Pulisic’s penalty in the same.
When looking at the last meeting at the Gold Cup, the Mexicans beat America 1-0, on July 8, 2019, in the finals.

This game looks very interesting, but we still don’t believe that there might be too many goals involved. Mexico plays tough defense, the same as the USA, plus the importance of the game itself will force both sides to be extra careful and focus on protecting their net rather than attacking.
