One of the big races at Saratoga this weekend will come in the form of the G1 Alabama Stakes. This race is for horses aged three, with fillies competing over a distance of 1 ¼ miles on the dirt. The final leg of the American Triple Tiara has attracted a strong field this weekend, with eight runners set to go to post.

Before Betting On Alabama Stakes

The Alabama Stakes is the feature on the card at Saratoga this weekend, with the field of eight fillies competing over a distance of 1 ¼ miles for their share of the $600,000 purse. It is the final leg of the American Triple Tiara, and there have been some recent famous winners of the race. Among those include 2020 Preakness winner Swiss Skydiver, and talented Todd Pletcher fillies Malathaat and Nest.

Candied could be a strong contender to improve Pletcher’s record in the race this year, as the three-year-old has been incredibly consistent throughout this season. She was the winner of the Lady’s Secret Stakes in June, before chasing home the incredibly talented Thorpedo Anna in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks last month.

Miss Justify represents the same trainer this weekend, with Flavien Prat taking the ride. The three-year-old has won twice from three starts this season, and comes into Saratoga after winning at the track last month in the Wilton Stakes. However, she steps up in grade this weekend for a clash with her talented stablemate.

Intricate is also an exciting contender from the Brendan Walsh yard this weekend, and she should have solid claims based on the ratings. She beat Thorpedo Anna on debut at Churchill Downs, but was last seen finishing third behind her rival in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks. Worth mentioning that she was also four lengths behind Candied in that race at Saratoga, which would be an obvious concern.

Chatalas could be an interesting play in exactas this weekend after winning the G3 Iowa Oaks on her latest effort. However, the manner in which Candied ran away from the remainder of the G1 Coaching Club field shows that she is the one to beat this weekend, and we fully expect her to put this field to the sword on Saturday.
