The big Grade One in the United States this weekend will be staged at Saratoga, as the second leg of the Triple Tiara will be run on Saturday. Fillies aged three will compete over a distance of 1 1/8 miles, and a field of five set to go to post.
Before Betting On Coaching Club American Oaks
The Coaching Club American Oaks was first staged in 1917, using the Epsom Oaks as inspiration to showcase the best fillies on the dirt. This race will cover a distance of 1 1/8 miles, and it has been staged at Saratoga since 2010. Furthermore, it has been run over its current distance since moving to the Spa.
Wet Paint was the winner of the race in 2023, while Todd Pletcher is the dominant trainer in the race after recording eight previous victories. However, this weekend’s race is all about Kenneth McPeek’s Thorpedo Anna. The three-year-old has been sensational this season, landing Kentucky Oaks glory in May, before following up with an equally dominant display at Saratoga in June to score in the G1 Acorn Stakes by over five lengths.
Leslie’s Rose was second behind Thorpedo Anna on that previous start, and she will once again be the main danger to the dominant three-year-old filly in the U.S. this season. Pletcher’s runner has enjoyed success on track already this season, with her biggest win to date coming at Keeneland in April when getting the better of Just F Y I to land the G1 Ashland Stakes.
Candied is also a live chance for Pletcher this weekend, but she has a fair deal to make up on her stablemate after finishing five lengths behind Leslie’s Rose in the G1 Ashland. Intricate got the better of Thorpedo Anna at Churchill Downs last year, but she has been well beaten on her previous two starts this season.
