The Del Mark Oaks is the feature in California this weekend, with a field of fillies aged three competing over 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Del Mar. This race has a purse of $300,000, and the Grade One has been staged annually since 1957. But, which horse will claim the spoils in the race this year?

Before Betting On Del Mar Oaks

The G1 Del Mar Oaks is the feature at the track this weekend, with a field of fillies aged three competing over 1 1/8 miles on the turf. This race was first staged in 1957, and it has been a Grade One contest since being upgraded in 1994. The race has thrown up some progressive types in recent years, with the roll of honor including equine stars such as Spendarella, Anisette, and Evening Jewel.

There is a sense that we could see another promising filly this year, with Philip D’Amato’s Iscreamuscream being a hot contender at the top of the betting. The three-year-old has won on each of her three career starts, which includes victory in the G2 San Clemente Handicap on her previous outing at Del Mar last month. She looks ready for this step up in grade.

Whiskey Decision is the runner from the Arnaud Delacour yard this weekend, and she could be hard to dismiss after winning three from four career starts. She has been in excellent form since an underwhelming debut, winning on each of her last three starts. The latest of those scored a speed rating of 95 in the Christiana Stakes at Delaware Park.

Circle of Trust is the second runner from the D’Amato yard this weekend, with Reylu Gutierrez taking the ride. It was hard not to be impressed by her latest outing at Santa Anita when scoring in the G3 Honeymoon Stakes, with that performance setting a speed figure of 101. There could be more to come, and she is more battle-hardened than her stablemate.

Iscreamuscream remain unexposed, but this is a trappy race to land a first Grade One success. Therefore, Medoro could be an interesting contender based on the figures to reverse the form from the G2 San Clemente Handicap. The three-year-old landed two straight stakes wins before that defeat, which included a success in the G3 Providencia Stakes over a mile and one furlong.
