Before Betting On Diana Stakes
The Diana Stakes is the feature race at Saratoga on Saturday, with fillies and mares set to compete for their share of the $500,000 purse. Chad Brown has dominated this race throughout history, claiming eight overall victories, and five wins in the last six years.
Therefore, his runners appear to be the best place to start when assessing the contenders this weekend. Chili Flag is a standout contender from the Brown yard after winning five from 14 career starts. She has reached a new level so far this year, winning on each of her last three starts. The latest of those saw her get the better of Whitebeam to land the G1 Just A Game Stakes.
Coppice has always been held in high regard by connections, and she will have Frankie Dettori aboard this weekend. She was narrowly beaten by Chili Flag in the G2 Turf Mile Stakes in May, before finishing two lengths behind the same stablemate in the G1 Just A Game. On both starts she has been sent off as the favorite, and more will be expected this weekend.
Away from the Brown runners, Moira could hold the most pressing claims. We haven’t seen this five-year-old for trainer Kevin Attard since she finished third in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Fillies and Mare Turf. Prior to that effort, she was productive in Canada, including a career-best effort when landing the G2 Canadian Stakes.

Didia is our second choice this weekend, but the fact that she gives weight away could prove too much for the six-year-old. Mission Of Joy could present some value in the market after being, unfortunately, behind Chili Flag on both starts this season. A clean run this time around could see her upset the odds.
