The Forego Stakes will be held at Saratoga on Saturday on the undercard to the Travers Stakes. This Grade One will cover a distance of seven furlongs, and it is considered to be a prep race for either the Sprint or Dirt Mile at the Breeders’ Cup. But, which runner will come out on top in the contest in New York this year?

Before Betting On Forego Stakes

The Forego Stakes is another Grade One that will be staged on a blockbuster day of action at Saratoga this Saturday, with the field competing over a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt. This race has been a top-level race since being upgraded in 2001, and runners from the race either head toward the Dirt Mile or Sprint at the Breeders’ Cup.

Mullikin sets the clear standard on paper coming into the race this weekend after winning impressively on his last start for trainer Rodolphe Brisset at Belmont at the Big A. The four-year-old coasted through the race on that day over seven furlongs, and ultimately finished over a length clear of Coastal Mission in the G2 John A Nerud Stakes.

However, he could be vulnerable at the top level with extra weight to carry. Jose D’Angelo’s Run Classic is an interesting runner on his return to the track after previously taking second in the Smile Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream Park. He has some solid stakes runs in the bag, including a seventh in the G1 Golden Shaheen at Meydan.

Cagliostro will need to overcome the widest stall for Cherie DeVaux on Saturday, but the four-year-old travels to Saratoga in excellent recent form. He was last seen winning the Hanshin Stakes at Churchill Downs, while he has progressed with every start during the current season.

Baby Yoda is a horse I like a lot, and he already has winning experience over seven furlongs this season after beating Acceritive in an optional claimer. That was followed up with a win over an extended six furlongs at Saratoga when smashing the field by six furlongs in the G2 True North Stakes.
