Bentornato will be the popular prediction on his return to action this weekend in the Gallant Bob Stakes.

The three-year-old will be making just his second start in 2024, with connections setting their sights on a Breeders’ Cup Sprint success. But, could the odds-on shot be worth taking on at Parx this weekend?

Before Betting

Sprinters take center stage in the eleventh race on the card at Parx this weekend, as the G2 Gallant Bob Stakes is run over six furlongs. A competitive field of six runners will go to post in Pennsylvania, and as the betting would suggest, it is a wide open contest.

Bentornato is the runner for trainer Jose D’Angelo, and he drops back to six furlongs after finishing second in the Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes and a distant third in the G3 Saudi Derby. But, he showed promise over this sprinting distance last season when winning a pair of races at Gulfstream Park.

The comeback run last month was needed, and he should be primed to take the beating in this race. Buccherino is one of a number of runners carrying less weight than the favorite this weekend, and that could make him dangerous.

The colt has won twice from four starts this season, and is yet to finish outside of the money. His course and distance experience could be a major advantage in this company, winning on all three starts at Parx, which included when setting a 101 speed figure in the Salvatore M. DeBunda Sprint Stakes last month.

One Sharp Cookie is also one of two runners for Saffie Joseph Jr this weekend, with Mike Smith taking the ride. The three-year-old has won three from seven this season, and is worth a second look after clocking consistent speed figures outside of stakes company.

Gallant Bob Stakes Prediction

A wide-open betting heat is set for the Gallant Bob this weekend. Buccherino is a solid selection based on his record at Parx, and he will be our main play in the betting. However, Bentornato is likely to run his race, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him take second.
