The final Grade One on the Saratoga card before the Travers Stakes comes in the form of the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial. This race will be run over seven furlongs on the dirt, with horses aged three competing for their share of the $500,000 purse. Recent winners of the race include Jackie’s Warrior and Jack Christopher.

Before Betting On H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes

The H. Allen Jerkens Memorial will serve as the final race on the undercard before the illustrious Travers Stakes this weekend. This race has been contested since 1984, when it was previously known as the King’s Bishop Stakes. It has been a Grade One event since 1999 and many previous winners have later been named the American Champion Sprint Horse.

A talented field will go to post this weekend, and the betting will likely be headed by Domestic Product for Chad Brown. The three-year-old has shown stacks of potential throughout this season, including when he was last seen beating Hades by over seven lengths in the G3 Dwyer Stakes. However, the step back to seven furlongs does present a question.

Bob Baffert also has a leading contender in the field this weekend, with Prince Of Monaco making his second start of the season. The talented three-year-old was last seen finishing second behind Book’em Danno in the G1 Woody Stephens Stakes over course and distance in June. The winner on that day has incredibly progressive claims, with his only defeat this season coming behind impressive Japanese Derby contender Forever Young by a head in the G3 Saudi Derby.

Timberlake arrives at Saratoga on a comeback mission for Brad Cox this weekend. He was a leading contender for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last year, and looked professional on his return when beating Common Defense in the G2 Rebel Stakes. However, his form over a mile fizzled out following that win, and a return to seven furlongs could spark a revival on Saturday.

H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes Odds & Picks

HorseOdds
Domestic Product+400
Prince Of Monaco+400
Book’em Danno+500
Timberlake+600
Little Ni+650

This is a fascinating race on the Travers undercard this week, but at the prices we like the chances of Book’em Danno, who has some seriously high-quality form in the book. Timberlake will also be an Exacta Box play, while Little Ni could boast a progressive profile after winning two of his last three.
