The high-quality stakes action this summer at Saratoga continues on Saturday, with two graded contests set to be staged at the Spa. However, there could be Breeders’ Cup Classic clues on offer in the G2 Jim Dandy Stakes, which will be run by horses aged three.

Before Betting On Jim Dandy Stakes

The Jim Dandy Stakes has been staged at Saratoga since 1964, with the field of horses aged three competing over a distance of 1 1/8 miles. There have been some talented winners of this race in recent seasons, including Forte in 2023 for trainer Todd Pletcher.

However, this is a Grade One field for a Grade Two affair at Saratoga this weekend. A fascinating contest will see the Derby second, as well as the Derby winner lock horns. But, the only winner of a Triple Crown race involved on Saturday is Seize The Grey for D. Wayne Lukas. The likable three-year-old was the winner of the Preakness Stakes in May, but ran well below his best when only seventh on his previous outing.

Fierceness was considered by most to be a bit of a superstar at the start of the season, but his Derby mishap now sees him have questions to answer. However, it could be argued that he may be the most likely winner if bringing his G1 Florida Derby-winning best form to the table on Saturday.

Sierra Leone has always appeared to be a winner in waiting for trainer Chad Brown. He was an unfortunate second in the Derby at the start of May, before finishing third in the Belmont Stakes last month. However, the latter of those form lines reads incredibly strongly following last weekend’s Haskell Stakes.

A small field could suit Fierceness this weekend, as he bids to bounce back from his Derby disappointment in May. He clearly boasts ability, and he could re-emerge as a leading Breeders’ Cup Classic hope on Saturday.
