The July Cup Stakes is one of the standout races on the European schedule, and it is one of Britain’s most valuable sprint races. It is the sixth leg of the Global Sprint Challenge, and last year’s winner was the impressive Shaquille.
Inisherin looks to be a standout contender for Kevin Ryan this weekend. The three-year-old has already won some prestigious sprints this year, most recently at Royal Ascot over course and distance when landing the G1 Commonwealth Cup. He is clear on ratings, and another stunning display could come this weekend.
Vandeek is also hard to overlook for the Simon & Ed Crisford team, despite a disappointing return to action when finishing four lengths behind Inisherin in the G2 Sandy Lane Stakes. That was his first start after going four on the bounce as a two-year-old, and it could be argued that ground conditions went against him on that first return this year at Haydock.
River Tiber represents the Aidan O’Brien team at Newmarket this weekend, and he is a fascinating contender dropping back to six furlongs. He was last seen being well beaten in the G3 Jersey Stakes, but was a winner over course and distance in the G3 Coventry Stakes last season. Hard to rule out for dominant connections.
