The lucrative races on the Kentucky Downs card this Saturday just keep coming, with the G3 Mint Millions Stakes boasting a purse of $2 million. This race will feature horses aged three and older, with a total distance of one mile being covered by the field.

Before Betting On Mint Millions Stakes

The Mint Millions Stakes will be run at Kentucky Downs this weekend, with the field of horses aged three and older competing on the turf. This race has a huge purse of $2 million, and it has been contested annually since 1992. Five trainers are tied for the most wins in the race, with Michael Maker, Steven Asmussen, and Wesley Ward among the trainers to have claimed two wins.

As expected, there are strong European raiders in the lucrative race this weekend, and there could be none more interesting than the 2023 winner, Ancient Rome. The Charles Hills runner was last seen finishing third behind Nations Pride in the G1 Arlington Million, and also has strong graded British form after claiming second behind Quddwah in the G2 Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot.

Aidan O’Brien brings a strong traveling party to Kentucky Downs this weekend ahead of raids at the Breeders’ Cup in November. Mountain Bear will be the ride of Frankie Dettori. The three-year-old has been slightly expensive to follow this season after winning just once in eleven starts. However, he sparked on his start over a mile at Leopardstown last month when finishing second in the G3 Desmond Stakes.

Emmanuel has solid claims for the Michael Maker team this weekend. The five-year-old was last seen finishing fourth in the G2 United Nations, but has held his own on graded appearances throughout 2024. Funtastic Again should also be considered for the Wesley Ward team. The four-year-old ran an excellent race on his previous effort to take second in the G1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes at Santa Anita.

Track experience is always important at Kentucky Downs, meaning that it could be challenging to overlook Ancient Rome, who arrives at the track in excellent recent form. However, Irish Aces could be worth a gamble. He was excellent when landing the Tapit Stakes at the track late last month, and has some interesting pieces of form, which includes a third in the G3 Arlington Stakes.
