One of the most competitive betting heats at Del Mar this weekend comes in the form of the San Diego Handicap. The Grade Two will be contested on the dirt in California, with a total distance of 1 1/16 miles being covered. You can find the latest odds and picks here.

Before Betting On San Diego Handicap

The San Diego Handicap will be staged at Del Mar this weekend, with the field of horses aged three and older competing over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. It is a key prep for the Pacific Classic Stakes, and it has also been a springboard for some excellent horses in recent years. Among those include Senor Buscador, who landed victory in the San Diego Handicap last year.

Bob Baffert has a very strong hand for the race this year, and his standout selection could come in the form of the expensive son of Uncle Mo- Arabian Knight. The runner was an excellent winner of the Pacific Classic last year, before finishing a respected fourth in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic. Sets the standard here.

Newgrange is the runner for Phillip D’Amato this weekend, and he should have solid claims on his best form. He bombed out when sixth in the G1 Santa Anita Handicap on his previous outing, but his form when beating Newgate in the G2 San Pasquel Stakes remains high-quality.

Express Train isn’t getting any younger, but the seven-year-old has some high-quality form from 2022 that should be considered. He was fourth in the Classic, and a close second in the G2 Californian Stakes. His comeback run over 6 1/2 furlongs highlights that this race is the long-term plan.

Arabian Knight is incredibly hard to oppose this weekend. However, the improving Dr. Venkman could be an interesting play for Exacta bettors following his comeback second in the G2 Triple Bend Stakes.
