Inter Milan made a masterful comeback in the city derby against AC Milan, to post a 4-2 win, and revive its title dream once again.
Fantastic Nerazzurri
In a roller-coaster match in front of more than 75,000 spectators at Giuseppe Meazza or San Siro as others call it, Antonio Conte’s crew showed character and mental strength even though they suffered blows in the most delicate moments of the event.
Milan scored its goals in the 40th and 45+1 minute, getting a massive edge over the rivals. And not only that, Rosonerri were much better in the first part of the game, controlling the situation on the field.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was especially noticeable. The Swed scored a goal and added an assist, being the central figure in Milan’s team. He had massive help from Anter Rebic and Theo Hernandez, who were ripping apart Inter’s right side, with constant attacks and pressure on the back line.
Everything looked perfect for Stefano Pioli’s guys in that opening sequence and seemed that his team might post the first win over the local rival since January 2016.
But that didn’t happen.
Antonio Conte regrouped his players during the halftime break, boosting their morale and waking up the fighting spirit. It caused for Inter to roll over the rivals in the opening few minutes of the second half and to deliver two goals in three minutes.
At first, Marcelo Brozovic equalized with a precise shot just from outside the box, and later, Matias Vecino erased the advantage Milan had. At that moment, the stadium exploded, as the majority of fans in the stands were supporting Inter, who was the host of the event.
In the 70th minute, Stefan de Vrij, Dutch center-back scored after a header, while Romelu Lukaku added one more goal to his account in the stoppage time, setting the final result, 4-2.
In the meantime, Milan had a chance to equalize, but Ibrahimovic’s header hit the bar from a few yards. It was the last opportunity for his team to avoid a loss last night.
Inter Reaches Juve in the Standings
This game was very important for Inter due to Juventus’ loss against Hellas Verona on Saturday, 2-1. Nerazzurri needed all three points to catch up with the Old Lady, and they are now tied at the top of the league standings with 54 points each.
Inter had a couple of slips along the road recently, and they allowed the champions to jump over them. However, with this victory, Antonio Conte’s side is back in the saddle.
An interesting and thrilling end of the Seria A championship is guaranteed, especially because Lazio joined the title race. The Sky-Blues have just one point fewer than the leading duo, and for sure, Simone Inzaghi’s side will try to make a massive sensation and snatch the trophy right under Inter’s and Juve’s nose.
Milan on the other side is struggling, and Rosonerri sit 10th on the table, with 32 points, with slim chances of reaching the Champions League.
