Jaguars Will Start Mac Jones at Quarterback

First-string quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a concussion in Week 13 when Houston linebacker Azzez Al-Shaair hit him with a forearm. The incident started a full-on brawl. Al-Shaair was suspended for three games.

Lawrence was placed on injured reserve. Had he been completely healthy beforehand, he probably would not have played again this season. Since he had a serious left shoulder problem that cost him a month before playing Houston, it made sense to shut him down and surgically repair it ASAP.

Backup Mac Jones’ career has plummeted since his promising 2021 rookie season with the Patriots when the team went 10-7 and made the playoffs. He made the Pro Bowl and came in second for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

New England discarded him for a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jones has played in five games for the Jags completing 57 passes in 92 attempts for two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Regardless of the quarterback, their offense is one of the league’s worst. Their defense isn’t much better and they’re 30th in takeaway differential.

A Rare Game Where the 2024 Titans Are Favored

In Week 13, the Commanders overwhelmed the Titans 42-19. This came on the heels of Tennessee’s best win of the season in Week 12, beating Houston 32-27.

Quarterback Will Levis has had a year to forget, going 2-7 in his nine starts with 12 touchdown passes and nine interceptions. There is a clear disconnect between first-year head coach Brian Callahan and Levis that will likely leave the Titans looking for a replacement in the draft or through free agency.

Tennessee’s pass defense is ranked first in fewest passing yards allowed per game. Their run defense is middle of the pack. Still, if the Jags cannot move the ball through the air with Jones, the Titans will focus on stopping Jacksonville’s running backs Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby. It will be difficult for them to score.

Perhaps Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson will let Jones open it up, but that won’t go very well either.

Jaguars vs Titans Prediction: Tennessee Should Win Convincingly

Jacksonville has far bigger problems than jockeying to stay out of last place while thinking about a higher draft position and pondering their head coach’s future.

They need to make sure Lawrence doesn’t start thinking it’s not worth it to play for a dead-end franchise, take his $70 million career earnings, and walk away.

Tennessee will cover the spread and total points will be less than 39.5.
