Leicester City have enjoyed a season to remember in the Premier League this campaign, but still, the futures of many of their top stars has been brought into question. The Foxes lost Harry Maguire last summer, with the England defender moving to Manchester United.

One player that has constantly been linked with making the same move over the past couple of months has been James Maddison. But, according to reports, he could be set to commit his long-term future to Leicester City. The news would come as a setback to Manchester United, who had believed that a deal could be agreed.

Maddison’s New Leicester Contract

It is likely that the new contract will see an increase on his current wages, and the temptation of Champions League football could be the big reasoning behind the change of heart. Maddison has been one of the stars of the season this campaign, and with Manchester United struggling to break into the top four, his only destination for playing Champions League football could be Leicester.

This is only the attacking midfielder’s second season in the Premier League. He joined Leicester from Norwich City in the summer of 2018, and announced his arrival in superb fashion. In his first season, he only missed two games in the Premier League and scored seven goals and made seven assists. He looks to be on course to break that scoring record this season, as he has already scored six goals in the league.

Maddison is also expected to be a pivotal player over the summer for England, as he is competing directly with Dele Ali and Jack Grealish for a starting berth in the number ten position. His stats this season indicate that he has been the strongest player out of the three.

United To Move For Another Midfielder

United are still expecting to be on the hunt for another midfielder in the summer, after bringing in Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in January. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he will be looking to add depth in that position, as Andreas Perriera and Jesse Lingard have both struggled this season.

Nemanja Matic is also out of contract in the summer, and Paul Pogba’s future could also lie elsewhere. Grealish would be a choice for United, but that could hinge on whether Aston Villa are able to survive in the relegation battle. The Red Devils have also been linked with Sean Longstaff for the past 12 months, and Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has admitted that the midfielder may leave in the summer.

United had a bid rejected for the Magpies midfielder in the summer, with Newcastle demanding at least £50 million. However, United could return for the midfielder in the summer, after the Newcastle man has impressed throughout the season. Another midfield option for the Red Devils is John McGinn, but once again, that move could hinge on whether Villa stays in the Premier League. One thing is for sure; United are going to be making some big moves in the summer transfer window at the end of the season.
