Jennifer Maia vs. Viviane Araujo is a women’s flyweight fight that will serve as the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 230. Main is seen as the favorite, but we don’t think Araujo should be underestimated. She’s a very tough fighter who’s determined to get back on the winning track ASAP.

Jennifer Maia (21-9-1) is a former Invicta FC champion who’s 6-5 since joining the UFC. One of her losses happened in the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship fight against Valentina Shevchenko. It happened by a decision, the same as all the other losses she suffered in Dana White’s promotion.

Maia, however, is without a loss in a year and a half, with two wins in a row – against Maryna Moroz and Casey O’Neill – each time by a decision. In fact, most of her career wins happened by decision, which shows that she’s a tactical fighter with a high fight IQ. She’s got plenty of weapons in her arsenal, which is no surprise as she’s a black belt in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Her opponent Viviane Araujo is another well-rounded fighter, who’s perhaps even better than Maia when it comes to wrestling. She lands just under 2 takedowns per fight, which is actually a great number given that she’s fought against some opponents with a great TD defense since joining the UFC – Alexa Grasso, Montana De La Rosa, and so on.

This is going to be a striking duel as both fighters tend to throw over 4 significant strikes per minute, while also getting hit roughly 5 times in 60 seconds on average. Araujo might manage to land a couple of takedowns, but we’re almost 100% certain she won’t be able to finish Maia on the floor.

However, if she lands enough TDs, that might be enough for the judges to score in her favor after the end of the three rounds.

Pick: Viviane Araujo to win by decision
