The New York Jets (4-11) visit the Buffalo Bills (12-3) in this AFC East matchup. New York is getting its dreadful season over with. Buffalo is looking toward the playoffs, on the verge of getting the number two seed. Our Jets vs Bills prediction is for the underdog Jets to keep the score within the 10-point spread.

Head-to-head, Buffalo leads with a record of 70-58.

Another Season of Meaningless December Games for the Jets

Again, the Jets are the target of ruthless and justifiable criticism after the latest report about the team’s inner workings. The dysfunction is so inherent that it’s a question as to who would even want the job as head of football operations, let alone head coach.

Some highlights (or lowlights) from the report:

  • Owner Woody Johnson sabotaged a trade for Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy because Jeudy’s “Madden NFL” rating wasn’t high enough.
  • He wanted to bench struggling quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
  • His teenage son usurped Rodgers when the quarterback attempted to give a game ball to interim head coach Jeff Ubrich congratulating him on his first win, later posting the video on Instagram.

There was more.

Now the Jets will spend the Sunday before New Year’s looking across the field at the only team in the NFL that actually plays in New York State. They’ll see what they should aspire to be but fail every year regardless of the cast of characters.

Buffalo Needs One Win in Its Final Two Games

Buffalo’s unlikely quest to catch Kansas City essentially ended when they lost to the Rams. They are relegated to the number two seed, will host a home Wild Card game against the lowest-seeded team, and can still have the AFC title game at home if KC gets knocked out in the divisional round.

Technically, Baltimore can pass Buffalo if they win their final game over Cleveland and Buffalo loses to the Jets and New England. It’s not happening.

Buffalo narrowly escaped their Week 16 game against the Patriots with a 24-21 win, but they got the job done. They should do the same against the Jets. Lamar Jackson will probably win the MVP over Josh Allen. But the final two games are about staying healthy and getting ready to fulfill the promise Allen and his team have shown without reaching the Super Bowl over the past four seasons.

Jets vs Bills Prediction: Buffalo Will Win, but Not by 10

Drama and backstories aside, the Jets’ defense is effective against the past, ranked fifth in the league in fewest yards allowed per game through the air. Buffalo has been vulnerable to the pass over the past three weeks. Losing aside, Rodgers has had a statistically solid year — he can still play — and the Jets have some weapons. The Jets should keep it closer than 10 points.
