The 3-9 disaster known as the New York Jets travels to Miami to play the 5-7 Dolphins. Both teams are disappointing, but Miami has a moderate excuse having lost its quarterback for multiple games. Our Jets vs Dolphins prediction is that favored Miami will cover the 6-point spread and the teams will score more than 45 points.

Head-to-head, Miami has a slight advantage with a record of 60-56-1.

The Jets Defy Description

It is difficult to formulate an adequate description of the Jets. They always manage to reach depths of embarrassment few teams in the NFL can compete with.

Where to start in 2024?

Was it:

  • Aaron Rodgers’ flirtation with a vice presidential run?
  • Owner Woody Johnson’s shock firing of head coach Robert Saleh after five games?
  • The desperate trade for Davante Adams?
  • Johnson firing general manager Joe Douglas?

And that’s just stuff that’s happened off the field.

On-field, their 3-9 record provides a concise summary.

The usual scoreboard results have obscured understated positives. Their offense was supposed to be a strength with Rodgers back from his Achilles injury and a litany of weapons available to him, but they’re 26th in points scored per game.

They have a young, talented defense. It has been severely damaged by the hair-trigger decision to fire Saleh — something Johnson was blatantly itching to do — and force interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich into a dual role as defensive coordinator and head coach.

Week 13’s loss encapsulated their season. The Seahawks’ atrocious special teams play and overall sleepwalking handed the Jets that game…but they came back from a 14-point deficit and won anyway.

This is the Jets’ story. Why should it change in Miami with everyone in the organization looking toward the future?

Miami Has a Faint Playoff Heartbeat

Miami lost starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for four-plus games early in the season. With Tua, they are 4-4. Still, after a three-game win streak got them back in the playoff conversation, their odious performance in Green Bay on Thanksgiving night significantly lowered their margin for error.

Miami’s mediocre offensive numbers must be assessed in the context of inept quarterbacking for four games.

Against the Jets, they will benefit from being back in the warm weather and being reasonably healthy. They need to run the table and get outside assistance to make the playoffs, but the schedule is favorable with games against the Jets, Houston, San Francisco, Cleveland, and the Jets again.

Jets vs Dolphins Prediction: Miami Will Win the War of Attrition

The Jets’ trend has been to fight early, get a lead, and then come undone late. Why would this be any different with the coaches and players knowing substantive changes are on the horizon?

Miami will cover the spread and the teams will score over 45 points.
