Action on the PGA Tour comes from Illinois this weekend, as the John Deere Classic is staged at TPC Deere Run. This event promises to be a competitive competition, with some of the world’s best players in the hunt for the championship. But, which player will come out on top?

Before Betting On John Deere Classic

The John Deere Classic has been played annually in July since 1971, and it is one of the final events on the PGA Tour before the start of The Open in the United Kingdom. A total distance of 7,257 yards will be covered in this stroke play event, with the field competing for their share of the $8 million purse. The par 71 event has seen a number of low scores throughout its history, with the record currently held by Michael Kim, who finished 27-under when landing victory in 2018.

Sepp Straka comes into the weekend as the reigning champion, as he dominated the field in 2023 to win by a two stroke margin from Alex Smalley and Brendon Todd. The Austrian player will once again rank among the likely contenders this weekend in a very open looking renewal of the competition.

However, Sungjae Im could be a challenging player to overlook this weekend. The South Korean player comes into the event in excellent recent form after finishing in a close tie for second at the Travelers Championship, concluding the event just two shots off the lead. That sparked a return to form after being cut early from the U.S. Open.

Jordan Spieth is often a challenging player to completely write off when examining contenders in this event. The American is a two-time winner of the John Deere Classic, with his most recent success coming back in 2015 following a playoff against Zach Johnson and David Hearn. He has typically used this event as a spring board for his major preparation for the Open.

Big price players have won the event throughout history, and therefore we will be taking a chance on one at a big price. Lucas Glover is a former winner of the event, and he has shown signs of a return to form this year. We could see him going well at a price of +6000 this weekend.
