The Mets (40-41) fought their way back into contention with stellar play in June, going 16-8 in the month including a recent stretch where they won 12 of 14 games. New York did drop the last two games of their series with Houston over the weekend, and offshore oddsmakers have set the price close for opener against the Nationals on Monday. Washington (39-44) is back from a jet-setting road trip that saw visits to Colorado, San Diego, and Tampa Bay so we will see if fatigue sets in for a team that was just 3-6 in that stretch.

Before Betting on July 1 Mets vs Nationals

The Nationals are just 4 games back from the third wild card spot and they’re getting some reinforcements for the second half of the season with the expected debut of outfielder James Wood on Monday night. Wood is a 6’7″, 234 pound left hand batter that is the #3 prospect in all of baseball who is hitting .353 with 10 HRs in Triple A this season.

Wood came to Washington in the Juan Soto trade with San Diego a couple years ago, and another key piece in that transaction will be on the mound for the Nationals on Monday when Mackenzie Gore (6-7, 3.60 ERA) starts the opener. Gore went 2-3 last month but with a 5.13 ERA that got off on the wrong foot after allowing allowing 6ER over 4.1 IP in an 8-7 loss to these Mets on June 3rd.

David Peterson (3-0, 3.67 ERA) starts for the Mets on Monday in a battle of left-handed pitchers. Peterson picked up three wins in June and New York was victorious in all four of his starts in the month including a 6.2 IP, 2 ER outing on June 4th in Washington.

July 1 Mets vs Nationals Prediction & Pick

New York has lost two in a row, but they also played an equally red hot team in the Astros who were 17-8 in June. The Mets were great last month which included a 3-game sweep at Washington and with the Nationals coming off a long travel trip the play here seems like a no-brainer.
